Ana Prvački: Detour

Together the Legion of Honor and the de Young make up the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The Legion of Honor occupies an elevated site in Lincoln Park approximately three miles away from the de Young in a northwesterly direction. Its building is a full-scale replica of the French Pavilion from the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition, by George Applegarth and H. Guillaume, which in turn was a three-quarter-scale version of the Palais de la Légion d’Honneur, also known as the Hôtel de Salm, in Paris, by Pierre Rousseau (1782). From the de Young’s Hamon Observation Tower, you can sometimes see Pax Jerusalemme, a sculpture by Mark di Suvero that sits outside the Legion of Honor.

In a special collaboration with Google Arts & Culture, artist Ana Prvački leads an alternative tour of the museum, prompting visitors to look anew at the building, grounds, and collections, and imagine different ways of viewing, connecting, and behaving.
